THE RHODESIAN RIDGEBACK

Originally, settlers in the African country of Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) developed this incredible hound to scent and hunt game, hold a lion at bay for the arrival of the hunter, and as loyal protectors of their farms and family. A versatile, courageous and characterful breed, they are distinguished by their glorious wheaten coats and the distinctive ridge of hair along the spine, which grows in the opposite direction to the rest of the coat, and turns in two crowns at its head. Known to be aloof with strangers, they are devoted to their families and highly intelligent, but require consistent, firm and fair training to be settled and truly happy.

A LITTLE ABOUT US..

Alex and Nita Webster

Nita began her journey when she aquired a beautiful Ridgeback bitch in 2000, 'Mbeya' was her introduction to the wonderful world of the Ridgeback. Strong willed but ever devoted, this girl stole hearts from everyone she met, and was an integral part of the family. Alex and Nita were married, and welcomed two children into the world, Loren and Noah, overseen by their adored Mbeya, who was never far from their side.  Mbeya was joined by numerous rescue dogs, the most notable a 'Ridgeless' ridgeback called 'Kya' who became something of a canine soulmate to Alex, and who is still, along with his kennelmate Mbeya, sorely missed. Our Ridgebacks were the inspiration for Nita to retrain as a veterinary physiotherapist, something she enjoys very much.  Almost two decades of owning, showing, judging and living with Ridgebacks has been a wonderful journey, involving not less than 12 Ridgebacks (be warned, they are highly addictive!) and many wonderful wins in the show world. First and foremost, our dogs are our family, we enjoy them on a daily basis as such, and any success in the show world is viewed as a bonus, and a part of our continued education into the preservation and health of this incredible breed.

KAZEMBE

Puppies

Puppies are occasionally available to well chosen homes.  Our dogs are health tested and only bred from if we feel the circumstances are right, and they have something to offer the breed, and if we would like to add to our own pack. As such litters are infrequent, so we keep a list of interested people.  The best way to be included on this list is to contact us, and we will help and advise you as much as we can.  You can contact us by email, using the link at the bottom of this page, visit our dogs, or meet us at a show. A place on the list is only available to those who have, or are willing to educate themselves about this breed, who have preferably already owned a ridgeback (first time owners are not discounted, but will be given more than the usual questioning, and of course, help if needed, to learn about the breed) and anyone who has read The Imbali Way of Raising and Training Your Ridgeback Puppy. Such preparation for new homes is key to our breeding programme, so please don't be offended if we are full of questions for you.  These are considered life long members of our family, and we want prospective owners to be friends, who can come to us for help and guidance.

INDIE -

KAZEMBE IN DEMAND

fullsizeoutput_9a2.jpeg

Indie is out of our beautiful girl Isla, and our handsome Solomon.  Crufts qualified for life, she obtained her stud book number by winning her very first Limit bitch class.  She was the most beautiful puppy and has grown into the most gorgeous girl, both in looks and temperament.
